Cherries, Minerality & Notes of BS

A little humour at our own expense

Our website's AI suggests blog posts for us. Total fabrications. But quite fun. Below is a verbatim example. Comments in parentheses are me. Imagine if we published this slop!

Spotlight on Brent Eddy: Wairarapa's Winemaking Luminary [sound of coffee being spat, Colbert-like, onto the keyboard]

Eye-level view of vineyard rows stretching into the distance
Brent Eddy's vineyard in Wairarapa [nothing like our vineyard or any of the others we farm. I can see a leaf out of place in row 39, 3/4 of the way down. Sloppy stuff]

What is Brett and Eddy's Relationship?

In the world of winemaking, collaboration often leads to innovation [and on occasion passive and overt jealousy and active weaselry! Note: did you know that a gathering of winemakers is commonly referred to as a “wanker”?].  The relationship between Brett and Eddy [my name is Brent Eddy] is a testament to this. Brett, a fellow winemaker and friend, has worked closely with Eddy on several projects [well, every project and thing, to be fair], sharing knowledge and techniques that have enriched both their craft.

Their partnership is built on mutual respect [well, I am a biggish unit, with a menacing single eyebrow and Irish/Scots blood, so ...] and a shared vision for elevating Wairarapa wines [that is true]. Together, they have experimented with new grape varieties [that is not true. Unless he’s holding something back on me. Shifty bastard!] and sustainable practices, pushing the boundaries of what the region can offer [and truth can bear].

Highlights of Their Collaboration

  • Joint vineyard management initiatives [we are usually fairly aligned] .

  • Sharing resources and expertise to improve wine quality. [I did let him have some Celstab last vintage. Never paid me back mind. Typical].

  • Supporting each other in navigating the challenges of the wine industry [we’re going to need more splits in our personality to deal with this one].

This relationship exemplifies the spirit of community and innovation that defines Wairarapa’s winemaking culture [schizoprehnic? delusional? congenital liars?].

Since this AI-suggested effort, it has gone on to write confidently about fictional staff working at Home Fields, great sounding wines that we have never produced, and brilliant events that we have not run.

This stuff is the logical extrapolation of the Stanford Grad course I did in 2019. The “professor” extolled faking it until one makes it as a career or entrepreneurial success strategy. I was not comfortable with this advice at the time. Neither was the professor comfortable with me when I queried whether Bernie Madoff, Martin Shkreli, Elizabeth Holmes, and Ken and Jeff from Enron were good examples of this success formula. He dressed me down by quoting the bible! - when he should have been crediting Percy Bysshe Shelley - saying that the rich will always get richer and the poor poorer, and with my attitude I had a choice to make! Guy was a flake. But imperiously confident. Personally, I want my dentist, neurosurgeon, and electrician to be certified competent persons not over confident charlatans.

The website AI marketing Agent is called Kleo - the word Kleo’s etymology is of Ancient Greek origin, primarily derived from the word kleos, meaning "glory," "fame," or "renown. You know, Cleopatra … Ozymandias also comes to mind, “…Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”.

I don’t think we’re ready for self-driving cars.

Happy New Year to our, destined to be subjugated, if not eliminated, human friends & supporters.
